Tear of the Clouds

This project is a love letter to my home region of the Hudson valley, an area of land formed by pre-historic glacial activity, around the central vein of the Hudson River.  The River itself originates a small lake in the Adirondack mountains called Lake Tear of the Clouds. Each aspect of the project from the fabric choices to the location of the final photo shoot are deeply rooted in my search for deeper meanings within the surroundings in which I grew up in. Along with being a sort of physical memoir, this project was an ode to those who's work and approach had inspired my own since I was child, the biggest being Frank Lloyd Wright, Andy Goldsworthy, and Georgia O'Keefe. Beyond  the physical work of such creative luminaries, I sought to learn from their own creative processes through their unique relationships with organic bodies and natural phenomena. Relationships which have informed my own way of looking at the natural surroundings of my own home region.

Looks include:

A chestnut brown hammered silk satin set of a robe and bralette with organza cutouts and satin piping which trace the sensation of ones act of inhaling air, with details of hand woven silk basketry around rock crystal "tear" detailing. This is worn with a pair of Wool crepe trousers hand beaded with a degradé of black spinels, which explore the phenomena of  surface tension of water droplets on skin.

A Graphite grey Hammered satin jumpsuit (also aimed to replicate the textured of water interacting with air movement) which trace the sensation of ones act of exhaling through contours of organza cutouts and satin piping.

A Sanguine red strapless gown of a layer of wool pebble crepe over Crepe back satin as an exploration of the act of tying a towel around ones body over wet skin

A Sanguine red floor length double faced cashmere coat  which traces the contours of circulation in the body in relation to the movement of water over the surface of the body through seaming

Various jewellery pieces of rock crystal "tears" in silk baskets with baroque pearls, Spinel body cuffs, and body basketry leather cording and Tektite glass around hands and feet.
